Ram Navami is the day we celebrate the appearance of Sri Ramachandra.  He appeared in the Sun Dynasty as the son of Dasaratha, king of Ayodhya and Kausalya his first wife.  He had three brothers Laxman, Bharata and Shatrugna.  Ram is a name for the Supreme Lord which means the reservoir of all pleasure and Lord Ram certainly was that to his family and the citizens of Ayodhya.

Although Sri Ram is an incarnation of the Supreme Lord His purpose as the son of Dasaratha, the husband of Mother Sita, the older brother of his three brothers and the King of Ayodhya was to be an example of the perfect behavior of one in this material world having those different responsibilities.

On His appearance day let us all pray for His mercy to help us on the path to transcendental goodness.  And  in all our areas of responsibility in this world let Him be our shining example.

Jai Sita Ram

Rama is a powerful incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead as an ideal king. He appeared in the Treta-yuga, more than two million years ago. Under the order of His father, Maharaja Dasaratha, Lord Ramacandra lived in the Dandakaranya forest for fourteen years, along with His wife, Sita Devi, and His younger brother, Laksmana. After the powerful demon Ravana kidnapped His wife, Lord Ramacandra retrieved her, with the help of His faithful servant Hanuman, and killed Ravana along with Ravana’s armies. The history of Lord Ramacandra’s pastimes is recounted by the sage Valmiki in his Ramayana.
