Happy 2010!!
Let the New Year bring happiness and prosperity to our friends and loved ones and peace in the troubled world. We hope and pray though we know that our wishes may not always be heeded. The year had scarcely begun when a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated the capital city and other places of the impoverished nation of Haiti killing more than half a million people and making millions more homeless. The suffering is incalculable.
One sobering aspect of such a catastrophe is that it makes us feel humble before a greater and uncontrollable force. It also brings forth our fundamental good nature and humanity by calling us to serve others in distress. People from all over the world are extending their hands to help Haitians in this difficult time. LOTUS also wants to do its share as it has done on previous occasions: when hurricane Katrina or when the devastating tsunami struck in Asia. The President and the Board of Directors of LOTUS would like to make the following appeal to the members and others:
“Let us join hands to help the children in Haiti so that our individual contributions can combine to be a significant sum, which will be recognized as our combined effort. We will send your contributions to the US Fund for UNICEF where every dollar will support relief effort.”
