Please join us for an evening of Indian Classical Music & Dance featuring renowned artists Mala Ganguly (vocal), Jyoti Prakas (tabla), & Sharanya Mukhopadhyay (dance).
Mala Ganguly
Mala Ganguly is widely acclaimed for her sweet timbre, flexibility, spontaneous complex improvisations, and technical virtuosity. Her remarkable live performances include a vast repertoire of Bhajans, Geets, Ghazals, Thumris and Qawwalis, and inevitably leave audiences inspired and impassioned. She has trained with classical artists such as Pundit A.T. Kanan and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, and lighter artists including Hemant Kumar. In 2007, Ganguly was awarded the International Festival Harmony Award for outstanding contribution to South Asian Art & Culture, just one of numerous honors bejeweling her twenty-plus year career.
Jyoti Prakas
Studying first with his father, Sri Nagendranath, and later with Pandit Brojen Biswas and Sri Sumatra Guha, Jyoti Prakas began his tabla career from a very early age. Prakas has participated in numerous musical concerts & conferences in India & the United States.
He is currently an instructor at the prestigious Dhwani Academy of Percussion Music, which was founded by his former teacher, Pandit Abhijit Banerjee.
Sharanya Mukhopadhyay
Blessed with a rare combination of power and grace, Sharanya Mukhopadhyay is a leading solo artist in Odissi Indian classical dance. Known for her systematized technique, including gait, movement and skills of enactment (or abhinaya), her artistry transcends the physical expression of dance to express a love of God. Mukhopadhyay is an aspiring, talented, and committed young dancer and choreographer who was also crowned Ms. South Asia and Ms. Showbiz India in 2008.
